Sound Healing

Sound healing is an ancient practice also known as vibrational medicine, and the practice employs the vibrations of objects that resonate — tuning forks, gongs, Tibetan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, bells, drums and even the human voice to go beyond relaxation and to stimulate healing.

You may have heard me playing my crystal bowls on social media. So how exactly does sound healing work? Sound healing works with vibrations and helps us tune our bodies. Each bowl and instrument I use is set to a certain frequency. Sound healing allows your body to heal itself by slowing down your brain waves, which affects every cell in your body, shifting them towards harmony, away from dis-ease.

Book a Session

Sessions take place in person in Spotsylvania.

I use a variety of instruments including crystal healing bowls, Tibetan healing bowls, tuning forks, bells, and an ocean drum. You lay down supported either on my table or the floor. I can use aromatherapy to enhance your experience if you like. The entire set up is intended to be incredibly calming and soothing. Sound healing and all the elements I use are to help you transition you from the sympathetic (fight or flight) to parasympathetic (rest and relaxation) nervous system.

FAQs

How does Sound Healing work?

During a sound healing session I play a variety of instruments like gongs, chimes, ocean drums and singing bowls while you lie down and focus on the sounds. The sound vibrations can slow brain waves and put the body into a relaxed state. Studies by scientists have also found that listening to sound healing helps release endorphins, the hormones associated with pleasure and reducing pain which further reduces stress levels and may even aid in the healing process. Low-frequency sound waves can help muscles relax and improve blood circulation. High-frequency sound waves can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and boost mood.

What should I expect during a sound healing session?

Participants will be reclined and supported with pillows and blankets. They will experience a series of different sounds and vibrations for 55 minutes. Before the sound bath begins, they will close their eyes, focus on the breath, and allow for relaxation to travel along the body. This will help them enter a receptive state and fully embrace the sound bath experience. There are a variety of instruments used and there may be vocalizations or spoken words, guiding the breath or attention.

What should I wear to a sound healing?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes are best when participating in a sound bath. The more comfortable you are, the more you will be able to relax and allow yourself to fully engage in the experience. If you get cold easily I have a table warmer and you can wear layers. There will be pillows and blankets for your comfort.

How often do I need to do sound healing?

Some people find that attending frequent sound healings provide ongoing relief and support for their healing journey. However, even if you don’t have a specific issue you’re addressing, booking a sound bath is still a beneficial and restorative experience. Some come in for “tune ups” monthly or seasonally or annually. It’s up to you!

What should I do after a sound healing?

Many people find they are a bit spacey after a sound healing. Following a sound healing session it’s best to take it easy, rest, relax, go for a walk and avoid stressful situations. Drinking plenty of water to not only keep you hydrated but also to allow any toxins released by the sound healing to be flushed from the body.
