Private Instruction
500 Hour E-RYT®, YACEP®, Yoga Teacher Training School
Prior to my acupuncture career, I owned Soaring Spirit Yoga, a yoga studio in Occoquan, VA for 11 years. The idea for Soaring Spirit Yoga Studio was born out of a desire to provide a welcoming space and community where students feel supported in their exploration of yoga and wellness. As a 500 hour E-RYT® and YACEP® through Yoga Alliance I studied at both White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA and Beloved Yoga in Reston, VA. I became a Registered Yoga Teacher Training School in 2016 for students at both the 200 hour and 500 hour levels.
The study of yoga began as a dialogue between teacher and student. I honor that tradition by offering Private Yoga for individual students or small groups. Private sessions are a great way to meet your individual needs for body-mind health, relaxation and stress management. Private yoga is for everyone – students of any level, from gentle to advanced, can benefit. You might be an aspiring teacher or a devoted student looking to go deeper… or maybe you’re just yoga-curious!

FAQs
What if I can’t touch my toes and have never done yoga before? Can I still book a private yoga session?
Of course! We all have to start somewhere. There is no required level of fitness or body type needed to benefit from a private yoga session.
What do I wear to a private yoga session?
Loose or comfortable clothing is best. Yoga is practiced bare foot.
What do I need to bring with me?
A mat and any props needed will be provided for you. You can bring water if you like.
How many sessions will I need to sign up for?
Private yoga can be one-off or done in a series. It really depends on what you would like to achieve with our time together. If you are beginning yoga for the first time, struggling with a particular pose, seeking a personal practice created to help you achieve calmness, strengthening or opening the body… it’s up to you.
What should I expect in a private yoga session?
A private yoga session may look something like this:
- Check-in. In order to utilize your time best you will need to think about what you want to accomplish. I will create a session just for you. The clearer your goals the better!
- Body Awareness/Scan. This can happen in so many ways. I typically have the student lay on their back and take them through a series of visualization exercises to help them relax and really be present in their body. Sometimes the student notices particular stress patterning, stuck emotions and so on.
- Breath Awareness. Diaphragmatic breathing is often a good way to start. There may be other breathing exercises incorporated to help your session based on your needs.
- Warmup. We’ll start slowly, giving the body time to warm up. This part of the session helps me assess your body awareness and movement so that I may select a proper sequence for you.
- Asana. Many people come to private yoga sessions to be taught asana, which is the movement-based yoga we all know. I will find poses and exercises that will support your goals based on your preferences.
- Savasana. This is said to be the most important pose in any practice and is done reclining. This is the receptive part of the yoga practice. This is where muscle memory is created and absorbed and is performed at the end of the session. It helps the yogi to assimilate what they have just experienced, much like sleep helps us to process our day’s experiences.
- Meditation. I have been practicing japa meditation regularly and create the malas used for this type of meditation. Sometimes, people come wanting to learn more about japa meditation, to have me create a custom mala for them, or to explore other forms of meditation.
